Conflict resolution presents an opportunity to address not just stated issues, but underlying issues as well.  It empowers participants and makes them feel like they are part of the process, rather than pawns of it.  Unlike suspension, conflict resolution does not disenfranchise students from their education. Suspension, on the other hand, often causes students to return to school resentful or vindictive.
